Had a great evening recently at the Kentucky State Fair and thought I would share a few things we enjoyed.  There is definitely something for everyone at the State Fair and once again, I was overwhelmed with all the people and things to do this year.  First off, I love the balloon sculpture when you first go in.  This year it was a basketball court with UK on one side and U of L on the other.  It was truly a work of art and enjoyed by everyone no matter which color you wear! I wish I could have gotten a better photo because it really was awesome.

Inside, the arts and crafts and cake and quilts and produce, well, it was all really obvious that a lot of heart goes into all the entries.  We enjoyed the boardwalk area outside where you can play games, ride rides and eat things like Bacon Sundae’s and deep fried Twinkies, Dill Pickles and Snickers Bars.  There were Red Velvet Elephant Ears too which was new to me.  They smell just as good as the regular ones too!  We choose Mike Lennings tent to eat at since we rarely take the time to go to the restaurant and were not disappointed by the huge portions and great food.  They had deep fried spicy pickles that were actually sweet and spicy pickle chips and were pretty good. They had live entertainment while we ate too.

Back inside we found one of my favorite places, the petting area where they had animals from a horse, donkey, pigs, lama, rabbits and baby ducks which are my favorite!  And on stage, every evening there were different performers. This year they didn’t disappoint with an appearance from Duck Dynasty stars and Country Music legend’s The Oak Ridge Boys, Montgomery Gentry and Christian music by Casting Crowns. If you haven’t been yet, there is still time with just a couple more days.  Take the family and start a new tradition!
